House Tour-Bob and Ana

This week's house tour is a little different, it's my house! I thought for the last tour of the year I could share my place. The pictures are a little dated, some changes have been made like the new living room lights and the bookcase in the kitchen, please forgive!

Name: Bob and Ana
Location: Bay Area, California
Square Footage: 583
Years Lived in: 1.5
Rent or own: Rent
Describe your style: Mid-Century Awesome (According to Bob)

What's your favorite free/found item?
That's tough, I've been lucky enough to find some really great pieces. I think it's a three way tie between the Heywood-Wakefield chairs, the rocking chair and the long bench.

What's your favorite purchased item?
I'm wondering if I can count the cat...if not then I suppose the Pearl Jam posters.

What has been your biggest obstacle in decorating/design?
space, there's not enough of it.

Is your design style organic or planned?
organic, one item gives way to where the next should be.

What is your favorite spot in the house?
The bed.

How has your style changed in the past 5 years?
My taste has definitely become more organized and cohesive.

What is your favorite resource or store?
Ikea and eBay.

What is your biggest decorating/design pet peeve?
Sparse magazine homes that look like no one lives there.

What has been your favorite design trend?
The resurgence of DIY, although I'm not sure it ever really went away.

What is the biggest influence on your design/decorating style?
Money and space.

What in your home dictates how you design/decorate?
Space.

What is the simplest thing you have done that has made the biggest impact?
The curtain separating the bed from the rest of the room. It makes it feel like a bedroom and not just part of the living room.

  3. We so think alike! I'm doing a SHELTER study of MY home for a new year post. It will hopefully inspire me to keep it looking as good as it does in the pictures.

  4. I find it just as difficult to keep clean as any other space I lived in. I don't think living small keeps you clean I think more piles of clutter develop because there's no immediate place to stash them.

I think having people over makes you keep clean.

  5. Yeah, you're right. Whenever I know someone is coming over I can accomplish amazing organization and styling. I am also always amazed how quickly I get it done. But do I keep it up? No.
