Lighting Dilemma

I had been searching for additional lighting for the living room. After much searching I finally settled on a new floor lamp from Ikea, The Vate. Then I went and visited my brother and he gave me a great Mid-C floor lamp (with brass accents!).

So now my conundrum is which lamp?

I have a chair that I plan to put in the living room, it's a low slung teak chair and I'm either going to angle it kind of where the lamps are or put it at a right angle with the couch. I haven't decided yet and I'm still a few months from getting the chair back in my possession.

I, personally, am leaning toward the ikea lamp. It's a little less obtrusive and doesn't get in the way of the drape like the pole lamp does.

Your thoughts?

  1. I personally think the lamp post is less intrusive. the short fat one is really hard to even discern in the photo. it's just round and fat and like a blob of light to my eye. Plus it would be the better reading lamp for the chair, should you decide to put it there. The brass of the pole also echos the candlesticks (that's what those are, right??) on the coffee table

  2. totally agree w/ Amy.
i also just have to say i don't think the curtains look great. the way the fabric of the brown panel gathers at the side and gets progressively shorter looks sloppy. in addition, i think the brown panel is too sheer to go for that kind of look anyhow. a heavier fabric would have a nicer texture and drape -- it would hang better and with more intention and weight toward the floor. and, if you do want to sweep the curtain to the side i think it would look nicer to have 2 panels and gather them toward the sides from the center, rather than stretching one panel the whole width of the window.

  3. I like the warmth of the brass lamp myself and like Amy said it goes well with the candlesticks

  4. i vote for the ikea lamp. the brass may echo the candlesticks, but the ikea lamp's shape echos the glass vases. and it's lovely and clean looking.
