No one really gave their two cents about this post, so I wanted to revisit it. Please check it out and tell me what you think.
On the same subject I picked up a lampshade for $2 at one of the thrift stores I was at this weekend. It's huge and oh-so-70's and I'm not sure if it's right.
The living room lighting situation has given me some trouble. I've had three lampshades on the lamp by the couch and I just can't make up my mind.
The first one is the original shade I had on it, it also has this cute bird finial on it. The second one is a Liberty of London shade I snagged at Target and the third one is the "new" $2 one.
They all have their pros and cons. The first one doesn't seem big enough to me but it gives the most light and the finial is very cute. The second one is really pretty and has peacock feathers on it (a bonus for me!) but it refuses to stay straight, no matter what I do it insists on being crooked. That's been driving me batty. The third is the darkest but the embroidery on it is the perfect shade of orange to match the drapes and it being so large, it makes more of a statement.
Thoughts?

I really like them all. My personal preference tends towards the red one, because I like bright colors. But does the red clash with the orange in the room? And I totally feel you about the crookedness--you just inspired me to straighten the shade of my desk lamp. But I still like the red one...
ReplyDeleteI actually think I like the $2 one the best. The scale is just better, in my opinion :) (I do love the Target shades though! I've been dying to get one myself, but can't figure out where I'd put it.)
ReplyDeleteI vote #1 - Maybe its the most plain of the three, but I think it suits the room best
ReplyDeleteThe first one is the best! The second one just doesn't seem to fit right and the third makes the light look dingy. I like the crispness of the white shade and I like that it is not competing with that fabulous green pillow.
ReplyDeleteI am totally for #3 - I like a substantial shade, and the fact that it's vintage does the trick for me. I think it suits your sofa style and cushion colour as well. Nice choices, though!
ReplyDeleteI like the first one the best! The second one is pretty but it would drive me crazy as well being crooked! The third one is a fun vintage find but just doesn't seem to fit the room...hmm...please let us know which one you decide on!

Me, I like the second one. It would make me smile every time I look at it (Target? May be headed there tomorrow!) I'm always directing as much of the light as I can with my lampshades, so "crooked" is a way of life in my house and doesn't bother me in the least.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping it would be a landslide in favor of one of them! I think I'm going to switch before #1 and #3 for now.
