On my way home from a friend's house last week I stopped into one of my favorite thrift stores. I've been going to this once since I was 13 years old. After being away for over a decade it's weird to be in my old haunts again. I'm not sure what to make of it yet.
Anyway, I picked up this paint by numbers painting for $6.99:
It's really cute and very girly. I knew the only place I could put it would be my office. It needed some work though. Check out the ballerina on the left. Notice anything weird? She's missing an eyebrow!
There was also some damage on the top right of the painting and a large scratch across the bottom.
I got it home and did my best with the tools I had. Using the paint I had I filled in and repaired the hole in the right hand side and since I had no black paint, you're going to love this...I used my eyeliner to fill in the missing eyebrow and fix her wonky eye.
There wasn't much I could do about the scratch on the bottom, I filled it in where I could using the paints I had but I wasn't able to match the colors perfectly and I'd rather live with a faint scratch than weirdo color splotches. The cheapo frame had to be updated too so I took my trusty semi-gloss white and had at it:
Such a simple way to really update that frame. When I brought the painting home my husband hated it. When I showed him the finished product he actually said "I'll eat my words, it looks great". Behold the power of paint!
Now they're pirouetting or grand plie-ing or whatever ballerinas do in my office.
On a side note I did what I always do when I find something neat, I researched it. I found the same painting on etsy for $82 more than I paid for it!
Now, that's a score!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great with the white frame!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. You've inspired me to attempt painting that magazine display shelf I just picked up. I just hate leaving drips everywhere ... I'm a mess :)
ReplyDeletelove it!
