I saw some buzz around the web about Art-o-mat machines recently and the idea behind them was really cool. This company refurbishes old cigarette machines and puts small art in them. What an awesome idea!
I went to their site and found that there is a gallery that has one of the machines in it not far from me in Ballard, WA. On Sunday we hopped in the car and hit a couple of thrift stores, a farmer's market, a record shop and then this gallery.
Each piece of art is $5 and I had to get the $5 tokens from the cash register.
We set the limit to $20, I found the bunnies and kept going:
It's a pretty cool concept and I told my mom, who owns a gallery, about it and she's going to look into getting one and I told my friend Barbara who's an artist and she's looking into applying to be a Art-o-mat artist.
Those bunnies are great! I can't wait to check out the one in SF, and send in some entries!
ReplyDeleteSweet and it seems I need to get my rear out more often. We have one at a local contemporary gallery and one coming soon to Whole Foods - oh yeah!!!!
ReplyDeletevery, very cool idea!
ReplyDeleteOh man, we were JUST in there this afternoon (visiting from Maryland) and the bunnies were cleaned out! C'est la, we managed to get 3 others instead but I think the bunnies were way cooler!
